Sidelines 20: Nebula’s Day Off

Penelope leaves the house for school. Nebula is eating a bagel for breakfast.
Bye, Aunt Nebula.

Penelope went back to school today somewhat optimistic. I had the day off and I wanted to get some work done around the house first. I did skip out to the new cafe for lunch rather than eat at home. I need to remember leave the house more often.

Nebula cleans up after everyone. The stack of plates is quite high, but she doesn't look annoyed.
You have to stay on top of the chores, otherwise they topple you.

But, well it was a bust. The only people I met were very rude and I completely forgot to take any pictures. The food was good, though. I think Cocoa and Nova would enjoy it, it’s got a hippy feel. Penelope might still be a bit young for it, though.

I made my way back home to cook dinner before everyone returned. That’s the best part of having the day off. You can cook dinner and go for a run at the end of the day without worrying about being too tired.

Nebula runs down the neighborhood street past some large white flowers near their house.
I’m already at level 7 jogging!

Welcome home, chickpea. You look happy. Did you have fun at school?

Penelope smiles as she greets Nebula who is working on the computer upstairs.
I’m home!

Mrs. Greenleaf asked me to be chalkboard monitor.
Chalkboard monitor?
I clean the chalkboard and I get to draw a picture in the “art gallery” on the board.
The other kids were okay? You didn’t wear you outfit today….
It…it was fine.
Did you make any friends today?

Penelope alone on a playground.
I got the playground to myself.

Not yet.

I don’t think she has any friends outside of us and the people she’s met at the park. And they were all adults. No other children. It doesn’t seem right, but there’s not much we can do about it. The other kids shy away from her.

After dinner do you want to go to the library?
Yes!

Nova followed her upstairs. The new library was gorgeous, it had so many more books than the old library. The original architect was KittyofPoland, although some improvement had been made. By the front door was  notice board and that’s when something caught my eye.

Did you see this, Cocoa?

Oh! That looks like fun. Looks like it’s got a bit of everything. Art, science, cupcakes.

Do you think Penelope would like to go? I don’t think she has any friends here. At least not friends her own age.

I know, she acts so adult. I don’t want her to miss out on what being a kid is all about. This might be good for her.

Let’s ask her.

Meanwhile…

Penelope sits in the library chair, nose in a book.
I found a book on Gregor Mendel!

  1. Penelope’s so blessed to have so many people looking out for her! I like how Nebula was very gentle in asking her about her school day and upon finding out that Penelope ‘s struggling to make friends, cheers her up by suggesting a library trip! That’s a great way to handle kids who’re going through difficult situations, rather than become overbearing or overly sympathetic like some adults do.

I hope Penelope likes the idea of camp! It looks like so much fun.

I’m also real curious to see the cafe Nebula mentioned! It sounds like a great place to eat and hangout. 🙂

  2. I’m always forgetting to take pictures–especially when I’m having fun and lots of great stuff is happening! When it’s boring, all I do is take pictures!

This is so wonderful! We’re gonna have a great time in Session 3! 🙂

    • Here we come session 3!

I started an Sims4 ISBI and I’m NOT going to tell a story around it. It’s kind of relaxing to just sit there and watch the little sims move around and not pause every few seconds to take a screenshot. I think I’ll keep the game going as a vacation for me. I’ll have to start a story ISBI eventuallly though to make up for it…

      • WHAT? You did? Is it the most fun ever? I just read Seraphaeli’s most recent chapter and I can’t believe how much fun it is. I want to live in her ISBI! As one of the Townies that gets pop-ups about her!
(Oh, look! Cathy Tea and SimJim Bee are really getting along well! said all the neighbors. And they’re growing butternut squash, too!) I hope you’ll at least do non-story posts about how much fun it is to play… with screenshots… not like a story or anything, just like “Oh, they did this! Then they did this!” and a bunch of stuff happened in the middle and everybody lived happily ever after!

        • To be honest, I started a sims 2 isbi first wrote two posts and then started derelict instead. Then last weekend I started the sims 4 isbi and I have a feeling that if I start up 3 there’s an isbi there too. Just have to pick one and play I think. Did I mention I start things?

          • INTP, right? INFP… I start, too. What’s it like to be playing TS2 and TS3 while you’re still playing TS4? Seraphaeli’s story really makes me miss TS3–it eats my computer, though, even the iMac.

          • Some parts are wonderful. I really loved the animation in 2 (the way they get into the bath makes me KNOW that it is the absolute perfect temperature). Seraphaeli’s story makes me want to play 3 and play with IFs and everything. I was missing toddlers when I started the games up. I did not miss the 3 years it takes to start 3.

But I do find myself missing the “advanced” functionality of 4. Building was an obvious improvement, but I keep wondering *why* they’re not getting flirty or, in the case of 2, why they can’t improve on their base personality. There’s less character growth, I think. Although that might be because I write it in.

  3. I hope Penelope gets her wish to befriend a child; summer camp is a great chance! By the way, I loved Sims 2 but the vanilla game Sims 4’s romance is almost as good as with ACR in Sims 2. I would never have played Sims 2 this long without ACR, that’s for sure.

    • I’m partial to 2 myself as well. But I only recently returned to it when I realized I could download the ACR mod. Right now it’s just for fun, but if I get bored of 4, I know which game I’m returning to.

Pretty sure Penelope can’t go to camp and not make friends so she’s safe there. She has no problem befriending adults, but we can’t seem to find any other kids in this save.
